Cookie Policy

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently and to provide information to the website operator.

Boaty Jobs uses cookies to make the site function, to remember your preferences, and — only with your explicit consent — to collect anonymised analytics data that helps us understand how people use the service and improve it over time.

2. Types of cookies we use

2a. Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are essential for the website to function. They cannot be disabled. Without them, core features such as logging in and keeping you signed in would not work. They do not track you for marketing purposes and we do not need your consent to set them.

2b. Functionality cookies

These cookies remember choices you have made on the site to give you a more personalised experience.

2c. Analytics cookies (consent required)

We may use analytics tools to understand how visitors navigate the site, which pages are most popular, and where improvements are needed. These cookies are only set after you have given explicit consent via the cookie banner. If you reject non-essential cookies, no analytics cookies will be set.

Note: the specific analytics provider we use may change. This table will be updated accordingly. Plausible Analytics is cookieless by default and does not require consent under ePrivacy rules; the entry above is included for full transparency.

3. How we obtain your consent

When you first visit Boaty Jobs, a cookie consent banner is displayed at the bottom of the screen. You have three options:

  • Accept All — enables essential, functionality, and analytics cookies.
  • Reject Non-Essential — enables only strictly necessary and functionality cookies. No analytics or marketing cookies will be set.
  • Manage Preferences — opens a panel where you can individually toggle analytics and marketing cookies on or off before saving.

Your choice is stored in your browser's localStorage and remembered for future visits. You can change your preference at any time — see section 4 below.

4. Managing and withdrawing consent

You can change your cookie preferences at any time. You have the right to withdraw consent as easily as you gave it.

  • Cookie banner:use the “Cookie Preferences” button in the footer of any page to reopen the consent banner and update your choices.
  • Browser settings: you can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that blocking essential cookies will prevent you from logging in. Common browser instructions:
    • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
    • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
    • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
    • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

5. Legal basis for cookie use

Our use of strictly necessary and functionality cookies is based on our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in providing a functional and secure service, and on contract performance (Article 6(1)(b)) where cookies are required to deliver a service you have requested (e.g. maintaining your login session). Our use of analytics and marketing cookies is based on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), obtained via the cookie banner. You may withdraw consent at any time.

6. Contact

If you have any questions about our use of cookies, please contact us at privacy@boatyjobs.com. For details on your broader data protection rights, see our Privacy Policy.
